JKIA Implements Upgrades to Ensure Uninterrupted Operations

Nairobi – Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen has announced upgrading of infrastructure at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) aimed at advancing and improving services.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) leadership met and assured the Cabinet Secretary on Tuesday that measures have been taken to eliminate blackouts at the airport.

Under the new system, the time-based mechanism has been replaced with a logic-based system, ensuring a seamless transition to backup power during blackouts.

Manual interventions, rectification of faulty control systems, expansion of cabling systems, and the installation of inverters with a 15-second transition time are among the measures implemented to enhance the airport’s power resilience.

Transport PS Mohamed Daghar, KAA Ag. MD Henry Ogoye, KCAA MD Emile Arao, and Director Air Transport Nicholas Bodo were present during the meeting, emphasizing the collaborative efforts to make JKIA a globally acclaimed airport.

Cabinet Secretary Murkomen expressed confidence that these upgrades would enhance JKIA’s standing as a premier international airport and ensure uninterrupted operations.
