Government creates new Sub-county for Garissa’s Alinjugur

Alinjugur is the newest Sub-County within Garissa County, after it was inaugurated by the Governor for Garissa county Ali Korane and the Fafi member of parliament Abdikarim Osman on Saturday.

The new subcounty has been hived off from Bura East sub-county to bring government services closer to the residents.

“I thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for the creation of more new administrative units in the expansive North Eastern, as this would go a long way in taking services and development closer to the residents, as well as improving the security of the area,” said governor Korane.

“I appeal to him to fasttrack the gazetting of Sankuri to a sub-county level,” he added.

The governor appealed to the people of Garissa County to embrace political tolerance during this electioneering period.

Mr. Robert K. Ngetich has been appointed the new subcounty head, as earlier gazetted by the government.

The Fafi member of parliament Abdikarim Osman said his constituency has achieved a special milestone in the launch of the new sub-county.

“The creation of the new sub-county is meant to enhance security and bring government services closer to the people,” said MP Abdikarim Osman.

“The new sub-county will henceforth directly benefit in the recruitment and deployment of national and county officers” added the legislator. 

The new administrative unit is expected to streamline public administration and delivery of services to the people and bring to an end complaints by local residents that they travel for long distances to access government services.

The leaders appealed to the President to fast-track the pending elavation of Bananey, Sankuri,Galmagala and Shantaabaq into sub counties.

The leaders attending the launch of the new sub-countywere led by the director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji and the NEP Regional Coordinator, Nicodemus Ndalana. 

The Regional Commissioner said the newly created sub county will initiate development projects, create employment opportunities and enhance security in the vast Fafi sub county that borders Somali Republic.

Other leaders in attendance were the Garissa County Deputy Governor, Abdi Dakane, MPs Mohammed Dahiye( Daadab), Abdi Omar (Balambala), Anab Gure (Garissa County WR), Senator Farhiya Haji Ali (Nominated), former Garissa Governor, Nathif Jamaa, Amb. Mohammed Shidiye and businessman Dekow Mohammed Barrow, and a host of Garissa County MCAs.
