15 People Perish In A Horrific Road Accident In Molo

Nairobi – 15 people have died after they were involved in a grisly road accident at the Twin Bridge area in Mau Summit, along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

The early morning accident involved a bus headed for Nairobi after colliding head-on with a 14-seater matatu, belonging to North Way Sacco Traveling Agency, that was headed to Eldoret Town.

Some of the passengers in the bus who escaped death by a whisker told KNA that the driver of the bus was overtaking carelessly when the terrible incident occurred, killing all the passengers on board the 14-seater matatu and some in the bus.

According to the Kuresoi North Sub-County Police Commander, Judah Gathenge, said that the driver of the bus escaped immediately after the accident, but investigations into the incident have commenced.

He said that the rescue efforts by various teams, including the Red Cross, were quick in response, but unfortunately, some died on the spot and others succumbed while receiving treatment at the Kuresoi Sub-County Hospital.

Gathenge said that the bodies of the deceased, among them eight adults and seven children, are lying at the Kuresoi  Hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem and identification.

He further insisted on the need for motorists plying the route to be vigilant when driving along the highway, that has over six black spots well marked by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), for this will greatly help reduce road carnage experienced annually.

He urged that incidents of road carnage experienced along the notorious Northern Corridor that runs through Nakuru County, can be averted if drivers follow traffic rules.

Gathenge appealed to motorists to desist from over-speeding and look out for the road signage and other speed-limiting facilities along the Corridor.
