Garissa County Government Partners with KNCCI to Boost Economic Growth

Garissa County announced a collaborative partnership with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) on Wednesday.

The strategic move is aimed at harnessing the initiative, spearheaded by Governor Nathif Jama, seeks to optimize trade opportunities and attract investments to the region.

Governor Nathif Jama highlighted the key objectives of this partnership during the launch of the KNCCI Garissa Chapter Strategic Plan 2024-2028.

He emphasized the focus on strengthening livestock and livestock product trade, promoting cross-border commerce in local horticulture, facilitating market access for goods from the upcoming County Aggregation and Industrial Park, and drawing international investors to Garissa’s promising landscape.

“We are committed to providing an enabling environment for businesses in Garissa County,” Governor Nathif affirmed.

He urged KNCCI Garissa Chapter Chair Mohamed Salat and his board, alongside CEO Abdiwahid Ahmed, to promptly initiate discussions with the County Government to address business community concerns.

The event, attended by notable dignitaries including Yemeni Ambassador to Kenya Amb. Abdul Salam Al-Awadi and Chamber National President Dr. Erick Rutto, underscored the importance of fostering economic growth through strategic partnerships.

Dr. Rutto outlined KNCCI’s commitment to youth and women empowerment through sharia-compliant financing and advisory services.

“Our organization will provide crucial support to local entrepreneurs, particularly women and youth, through initiatives like the Jiinue Programme,” Dr. Rutto explained.

This program aims to equip aspiring entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and resources to secure loans for their business ventures.

The collaboration between Garissa County Government and KNCCI is a significant step towards unlocking Garissa’s economic potential and fostering inclusive growth through targeted support for local businesses and entrepreneurs.

The Trade, Investment and Enterprise Development aims to make Garissa County the preferred destination for Tourism, Trade, and a leader in Enterprise development.

The sector goals include; create an enabling environment to accelerate growth in Tourism Trade, and Enterprise Development while empowering the youth and women to fully participate in the socio-economic development of the County.
