Wajir County's Rising Football Star Shines Bright at Kenya Inter-County Tournament

In the just-concluded Kenya Youth Inter-County Tournament 2024 held in Kilifi County, Mowlid Abdi Arkan, affectionately known as “Dybala,” was honored with the prestigious Most Valuable Player award for his exceptional performance on the football pitch.

Arkan, who was playing for the Wajir County team, showcased unwavering determination and unyielding passion.

Hailing from humble beginnings, he has risen to become a commanding force in Kenyan football, captivating audiences with his exceptional skills and tactical brilliance.

The Wajir County Government, in a statement, commended the 2024 Most Valuable Player of the year for his standout performances throughout the tournament.

“He showcased technical prowess during the tournament as well as leadership and sportsmanship on the field,” read in parts a media dispatch from the County press.

Reflecting on his achievement, Arkan expressed gratitude to his supporters and coaches, acknowledging the countless hours of hard work and sacrifice that have propelled him to this milestone.

“This award is not just for me, but for my teammates, coaches, and everyone who believed in me,” said Arkan.

Governor Ahmed Abdullahi extended heartfelt congratulations, emphasizing Arkan’s journey as an inspiration to the youth of Kenya.

“Mowlid Abdi Arkan’s story embodies the spirit of resilience and determination that defines our nation’s athletes. We are immensely proud of his achievements,” stated Governor Ahmed.

Congratulations to the Wajir County team for their outstanding performance as runners-up in the 9th edition of the Kenya Inter-county Sports Association games.

He said the team’s dedication, hard work, and talent have truly made the county proud and raised the bar for future competitions.

“A heartfelt appreciation to the coaching staff, county government officials, medical personnel, FKF officials, Wajir County principals, and all the supporters who played vital roles in the team’s success,” he said.

Wajir County football team emerged as true contenders in the 9th edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports Association games held in Kilifi County.

They lost in their final match through a penalty shootout against Busia County football team after a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
