3,000 people benefit from M-PESA Foundation’s free medical camp

Empowering Communities: M-PESA Foundation's Healthcare Initiative in Garissa County

Over 3,000 residents of Garissa County have received valuable healthcare services through a medical camp organized by the M-PESA Foundation in collaboration with Zuri Health and Lion Sight First Eye Hospital at Garissa Level 5 Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The comprehensive medical services offered during the camp included general consultations, cervical and breast cancer screening, Fistula screening, general doctor consultations, diabetes screening, hypertension monitoring, and child health consultations.

In a commitment to enhancing maternal and child health, the M-PESA Foundation distributed 50 mama packs, containing essentials for both mothers and babies, to mothers at the hospital during the medical camp.

Safaricom Foundation Chairman Joseph Ogutu emphasized the Foundation’s purpose of transforming lives and bringing healthcare services closer to the people, with a specific focus on non-communicable diseases, reproductive health advice, and general health consultations.

This marked the 11th successful free medical camp by the M-PESA Foundation, extending its impact beyond Garissa County. Previous camps were held in Lamu, Nairobi, Kakamega, Mombasa, Meru, Kisumu, Trans Nzoia, Narok, Nyandarua, and Machakos counties, collectively benefiting over 24,000 individuals.

In an additional effort to support community health, 110 people received free one-year NHIF memberships, granting them access to further medical services.

Zuri Health, as a technology solutions provider, offered a unique contribution by facilitating free follow-up consultations with doctors for up to six months through SMS and WhatsApp for patients who attended the medical camps.

This innovative approach aims to ensure sustained healthcare support beyond the initial camp, contributing to the overall well-being of the community.
