6 Kenyan traders killed by al-Shabaab Garissa County near Kenya-Somalia border

Authorities say security beefed up in targeted area

Six Kenyan traders were fatally shot by al-Shabaab militants in Dhobley, Garissa a border town shared by Kenya and Somalia.

The town, located approximately 562 kilometers southeast of Nairobi near Garissa County, has witnessed increased security measures following the attack, as confirmed by Garissa County police chief John Samburumo.

The assailants reportedly fled towards Somalia, prompting efforts to identify the victims and conduct further procedures in Garissa town.

Such incidents are sadly frequent along the porous Kenya-Somalia border, with al-Shabaab’s attacks often targeting Kenya due to its military intervention in Somalia since 2011.

Kenya’s involvement has made it a primary target for retaliatory attacks by the terrorist group, notably exemplified by the 2015 Garissa University College massacre, where over 140 students lost their lives.
