7 Killed In Accident Along Kisumu- Homa Bay Road

Seven people died on Friday in a tragic road accident along the Kisumu Homa Bay road, near Kendu Bay, Garissa Today confirms.

The incident occurred at 11 a.m. when a school bus carrying mourners to a funeral failed to negotiate a corner and landed in a ditch.

The passengers were from Nyakach and were heading to Karachuonyo for the burial of a relative.

According to Joseph Nganga, the Nyanza regional traffic boss, the driver, who remains unidentified, lost control of the vehicle while trying to negotiate the Pala junction.

“It happened that the driver, who has not been identified, was trying to negotiate Pala junction lost control of the vehicle, and landed into a ditch,” said the traffic commander.

The bus was carrying 39 passengers, and police who arrived at the scene managed to rescue 32 passengers with varying degrees of injuries.

“Majority had slight injuries with a few with serious injuries. They were rushed to local hospitals for medication,” said Nganga.

The injured passengers were taken to local hospitals for medical attention.

The bodies of the seven victims were retrieved from the wreckage of the bus and have been preserved at Gendia Mission Hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem.

The police have towed the bus to Kendo Bay police station as they continue with their investigations.

“The bodies have been preserved at Gendia mission hospital mortuary,” he said.
