Arab Parliament rejects Ethiopia’s violation of the sovereignty, independence and unity of Somalia 

Cairo – The Arab Parliament has rejected the interference in the internal affairs of Somalia on Wednesday. The assembly stressed the need for Ethiopia to respect Somalia’s sovereignty and adhere to the rules and principles of good neighborliness.

The Arab Parliament in a statement to the media, affirmed its complete rejection of any attempts to violate the sovereignty, independence and unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, calling on Ethiopia to adhere to the rules and principles of good neighbourliness, respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs, in order to achieve security and stability in the region. 

The Federal Republic of Ethiopia made strange diplomatic move seen on verge of becoming the first African nation to officially recognize the self-declared independent state of Somaliland. 

This is following discussions between Somaliland President Muse Bihi and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa.

The Arab Parliament stressed that the security and stability of Somalia and respect for its sovereignty is an integral part of Arab national security. 

It underscored support for the Federal Republic of Somalia in legal measures it will take to preserve its stability and national sovereignty over territory.

The Arab Parliament is the legislative body of the Arab League. Somalia is a member of the 22 country League, a regional organization of Arab states in the Middle East and parts of Africa. 

The founding member states were Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Transjordan (now Jordan), Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.
