County assembly approves Masalani Municipal Board members

Governor Nathif Jama has applauded the Garissa County Assembly and its leadership after it endorsed the nominees for the Masalani Municipality Board.

The Assembly in a unanimous decision on Friday approved the nominees for the Masalani Municipality Board.

In a special sitting, the House approved the report of the Committee on the Vetting of the Nominees of Masalani Municipal Board tabled by Khadija Idris, Chair for the Committee on Lands and Physical Planning.

The Nominees submitted by the Clerk’s office to the Governor for appointment are: Mohamed Hajir Sheikh,  Ismail Duale Ahmed, Hussein Abdullahi Gedi, Mr. Aden Ali Abdi, Dayib Yare Bashir, Maryam Mohamud Mohamed and Leila Ahmed Abdullahi. 

Members heaped praise on the nominees noting they possessed the requirements to sit on the inaugural Masalani Municipality Board.

They also lauded Governor Nathif Jama for his decision to elevate Masalani Town to a Municipality saying it would lead to a improved development in the town.

The members urged the County Executive to ensure the full operationalization of the Municipality is achieved within the shortest time. 

Garissa county assembly Speaker Abdi Idle who hails from Masalani also praised Governor Jama for making this history.


He said the Municipality is a game changer for the people of Masalani and asked the Board Members to ensure it achieves its intended purpose.

Masalani Municipality becomes the second town in the County to achieve the status of a Municipality after Garissa.
