Pastor Abducted and Robbed Near Nyayo National Stadium: Detectives Apprehend Suspects

Detectives have apprehended three robbery suspects who allegedly abducted and robbed a pastor near Nyayo National Stadium on Thursday night.

The suspects, identified as Bernard Mbunga Mbusu, Alphonce Munyau, and Samuel Musembi Kamito, were captured at their residences in Syokimau, Kitengela, and Kamito by a team comprising DCI Nairobi Area Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau detectives, supported by their Lang’ata counterparts.

The pastor, a clergy member at Christ Church, recounted that he was accosted by the trio as he made his way to a restaurant after preparations for the upcoming Benny Hinn crusade at Nyayo National Stadium.

Subsequently forced into a vehicle, the pastor was reportedly stripped naked, photographed, and coerced to divulge his Mpesa pin under threat of the images being shared on social media.

Following compliance, an amount of Sh55,000 was transferred to one of the suspects before the pastor was released.

Upon receiving the pastor’s report at Nyayo Police Post, the DCI team launched a forensic investigation that led them to Village Apartment Hse No F2 in Syokimau, where they arrested the primary suspect, Bernard Mbunga Mbusu.

A search of his residence yielded three mobile phones, including an iPhone 13 with the stolen money’s recipient sim card and a PDQ bank card swapping device.

Following interrogation, Bernard directed the investigators to Stengo 1 Apartment Hse No. E4 in Kitengela, where they apprehended Alphonce Munyau in possession of the pastor’s phone.

Alphonce’s cooperation led the team to Katani area in Athi River, where they arrested the final suspect, Samuel Musembi Kamito.

The trio are currently under custody at Langata Police Station awaiting arraignment on Monday.
