Garissa Agriculture CECM Visits Rice Farms in Jarajara, Praises Commendable Work

JaraJara – Garissa County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Livestock and Pastoral Economy, Mr. Hassan Abdirizack on Friday made a notable visit to the National Youth Service (NYS) rice farm in Jarajara, Garissa Township. 

The County Executive Committee Member was accompanied by Adan Hussein, a member of the county assembly during the tour to the irrigation scheme. 

Mr. Hassan who engaged with the NYS team in charge said more strategic engagement is required to address the concerns of the local community, promote sustainable farming and advance agricultural development and social welfare.

“We commend the NYS for their incredible work, including desilting canals, capacity building, and providing water to local facilities,” said the CECM Agriculture, Livestock and Pastoral Economy.

He urged the National Youth Service (NYS) team to expand their agricultural activities to benefit local communities. 

An estimated area of 30 acres is under rice cultivation for both the community and NYS Jarajara.

The visit is aimed to solidify support for organizations in the county, including the NYS, while lauding their contributions to agricultural development and social welfare.

Farms in Jarajara have harvested locally produce food signifying the great potential for agriculture in the region.

They include lemons, bananas, watermelons, pawpaws, mangoes, tomatoes, kales, onions, cassava and millet.
