Kenya’s Chief Justice Initiates Collaboration with World Bank to Strengthen Specialized SGBV Courts

Joint Effort with Clifford Chance Pro Bono Project Aims to Develop Comprehensive Companion for Kenyan Courts in the Fight Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence

Chief Justice Martha Koome met with Marjorie Mpundu, Chief Counsel for Africa, Middle East, and North Africa Practice Group at the World Bank, to continue discussions on collaboration aimed at enhancing and expanding specialized Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) courts across Kenya.

The initiative follows up on previous talks with the Bank’s General Counsel.

The World Bank, in conjunction with the Clifford Chance Pro Bono Project and the Kenya Judiciary, will collaborate on developing an SGBV companion for Kenyan courts.

The partnership will benefit from the insights of Judges, Magistrates, and Advocates, serving as a vital component of the broader framework outlined in the Social Transformation through Access SGBV strategy, aimed at addressing and mitigating SGBV in Kenya.
