Garissa's Urban Facelift: KURA's 15 km Road Network Paves the Way for Economic Growth
Garissa Township receives infrastructure boost as the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) inaugurated a 15 km road network on Friday.
The launch, attended by MP Mohamed Dekow Barrow, marks a crucial step in enhancing urban connectivity and fostering economic growth.
KURA’s commitment to road construction aligns with its broader socio-economic development goals, emphasizing transparency and accountability.
The upgraded road network aims to attract investments, stimulate economic activities, and improve living standards in Garissa.
The project addresses key connectivity needs and aligns with KURA’s mission to create efficient and accessible urban areas.
“Flagged 11 KURA road projects that are set to revolutionize the road networks in Garissa Township,” stated Rtd. Maj. Barrow, adding, “from new tarmacking to periodic maintenance, these projects are aimed at enhancing connectivity and ensuring smoother roads for all.”
The legislator highlighted that heavy rains had adversely affected many roads, making road resurfacing a top priority for enhancing durability and safety.
KURA, responsible for managing, developing, rehabilitating, and maintaining national urban roads, oversees a comprehensive 12,549 km road network.
A reclassification in January 2016 expanded KURA’s mandate to cover all counties, including a total of 3,969 km of paved roads and 3,503.35 km of unpaved roads.
The newly inaugurated road network is strategically designed to address key connectivity needs, seamlessly linking various parts of Garissa Township.
