Mandera South MP Announces Youth Empowerment initiative Through Technical and Vocational Education

Nairobi – Mandera South Member of Parliament Abdul Haro urged all Form 4 leavers from the constituency to consider joining Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs on Wednesday.

He has called on students at his constituency to explore the gap in the market and acquire practical skills in various specialized areas to equip the youth with valuable expertise for a range of professions.

Haro highlighted diverse fields available in the context of TVET, including carpentry, plumbing, welding, cosmetology, food service, warehouse management, electrical wiring, painting, masonry, floor tiling, roofing, and more.

“We must ensure students have the opportunity to explore and specialize in areas aligned with their interests and aptitudes,” he said.

Mr. Abdul Haro said he is determined to use TVETs as a means of supporting youth employment.

“I expresse a strong commitment to utilizing TVETs as a pivotal tool to curb youth employment,” he said.

Recognizing the importance of practical skills in today’s job market, this initiative seeks to bridge the gap between education and industry needs.

The legislator announced that the NG-CDF Mandera South office will give special consideration to students enrolled in TVET courses when allocating bursaries. This is aimed at making education accessible and financially viable for those pursuing technical and vocational training.

The emphasis on hands-on skills is a strategic move to empower individuals to contribute meaningfully to the workforce and, in turn, uplift the economic prospects of Mandera South.
