Marsabit Governor Hosts Inauguration of IGAD Cross-Border Facilitation Office
Moyale – Governor Mohamud Ali welcomed guests, including Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development), Ambassador Siraj from the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Lenah Nyambu from the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among various other delegates for for the official inauguration of the IGAD Cross-Border Facilitation Office on Monday.
The inauguration ceremony marks a milestone for the entire East African region. IGAD, a regional body comprising eight member states, has been at the forefront of promoting peace, security, and economic integration in the region. The Cross-Border Facilitation Office is set to play a pivotal role in advancing these objectives.
Governor Mohamud Ali expressed his delight in hosting the visitors, stating “the inauguration of the IGAD Cross-Border Facilitation Office in Moyale signifies our commitment to enhancing regional collaboration. Marsabit County is honored to be the host for this initiative, which will undoubtedly promote economic growth and stability in our region.”
Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of IGAD, commended the host county and expressed optimism about the office’s potential impact. “Cross-border cooperation is essential for the sustainable development of our member states. This new office will facilitate trade, ease movement of people, and enhance dialogue among communities living along our shared borders,” he remarked.
