The latest intervention involving the donation of 15 knapsack sprayers to the Elwak community for outdoor spraying was carried out on Tuesday.

Elwak South and Bulla Afya have been identified as the initial locations to benefit from this support. The knapsack sprayers aim to address immediate concerns arising from stagnant water and potential health hazards resulting from the recent floods.

MP Abdul Haro thanked Kenya Red Cross for their steadfast support during these challenging times. 

The collaborative efforts underscore a shared commitment to the well-being of the Elwak community.

“Our commitment to supporting communities in times of need is unwavering. The donation of knapsack sprayers aims to address immediate health concerns and enhance environmental hygiene,” he said. 

Mr. Haro alias Kore noted the significance of providing timely assistance to those affected by the floods. The knapsack sprayers contribute to outdoor spraying efforts, promoting environmental hygiene and minimizing health risks.

“It’s heartening to see collaboration between local leadership and organizations like Kenya Red Cross. These efforts give us hope and reassurance amid the challenges posed by the floods,” he said. 

Floods, a recurring natural disaster, have profound and devastating effects on communities. The recent heavy rain of destabilized normal life, causing widespread displacement of residents, destruction of homes, and loss of valuable possessions across Garissa, Wajir and Mandera. 

Beyond the immediate physical impact, the floods pose severe health risks due to contaminated water sources and the potential spread of waterborne diseases. 

Agriculture and livestock suffers significantly, leading to food shortages and economic setbacks for communities dependent on farming. 

Assessments carried in the region indicate there is need for an extensive rehabilitation efforts, straining resources and challenging the affected population’s ability to recover swiftly. 

A collaborative response from local leadership, national government, humanitarian organizations and International Partners has been crucial in addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by these calamities. Aid has been delivered to flood victims in many parts of North Eastern.
