Prime CS Mudavadi Embarks on Key US Visit for Trade and Investment Talks

Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi Pursues Crucial Trade and Investment Talks in Washington

Nairobi – Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs arrived in Washington DC for a 3-day official visit to the US on Tuesday.

He expressed enthusiasm about engaging in discussions on the Kenya-United States Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership, emphasizing the aim to strengthen cooperation between the two nations.

“I’m looking forward to productive talks with senior officials, particularly with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, to advance this crucial initiative,” said the Cabinet Secretary.

Mr. Mudavadi will be in the official representative of President William Ruto at the upcoming Prayer Breakfast on Thursday.

During his stay, the CS Foreign Affairs will prioritize discussions on the Kenya-United States Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership, resuming negotiations after concluding his official trip to Beijing, China.

“This visit is a testament to the strength of Kenya’s diplomatic relationships, and we are committed to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships with the United States and other nations,” he said.

The Kenya Kwanza administration has been actively pursuing a balanced foreign policy agenda between the East and the West.

Notably, this visit follows a recent High Court decision declaring the deployment of Kenya Police officers to Haiti as illegal. Despite the legal challenges, the US has expressed support, pledging $100 million for the Kenya-led multinational deployment.

Secretary Blinken affirmed last year the US commitment to provide logistics, intelligence, airlift, communications, and medical support to the mission.

In response to the High Court ruling, the US State Department reiterated its support for the international efforts to deploy a Multinational Security Support mission for Haiti.

The Cabinet Secretary’s visit to Washington is a significant trip to enhance diplomatic ties and strategic engagements with key global partners.
