Promoting Skills for Future Success: Garissa Youth Urged to Embrace TVET in Response to Unemployment 

Garissa – The State Department of Early Learning and Basic Education in Garissa Township sub-county on Saturday held a symposium for stakeholders at County High School.

Themed; Empowering tomorrows leaders and building strong foundation for education, the meeting discussed uplifting the education standards in Garissa sub-county. 


The conference attracted the participation of forward-thinking individuals and organizations, who recognize the pivotal role education plays in transforming communities.

Garissa Township Mp, Rtd. Maj. Dekow Mohamed expressed sincere appreciation to all schools that were awarded trophies for exemplary performance in the last year National exams. 

He also lauded teachers for the good job and urged students to be focused on achieving their education goals and aspirations of living decent lives in future. 


Rtd. Maj. Dekow reiterated, “my commitment to ensure supporting schools and public education in general through the CDF kitty remains steadfast.”

He encouraged Garissa youth to consider TVET education since the world is rapidly changing and skills remain the new currency in the job market. 

“We must invest in vocational education and empower our youth through skill-based education system that will help them  achieve sustainability and self-efficacy,” said MP Dekow. 


Experts at the summit provided invaluable insights that have been pivotal in uplifting the quality of education in the region.

Counties in North Eastern Kenya have been grappling with grave and distressing situation as the state of schools in the region has reached an alarming level of disrepair.

The stakeholders in the education sector also discussed the deplorable condition of educational facilities in the region which pose serious challenges to the quality of education provided to students.

Reports indicate that many schools in the region lack basic infrastructure, including dilapidated classrooms, inadequate furniture, and insufficient sanitation facilities.

The scarcity of textbooks and learning materials further compounds the dire state of education, hindering students’ access to a well-rounded learning experience.
