Senator Abass Sheikh Commends Wajir County’s Efforts In Addressing Pending Bills

Mr. Sadik said collaboration and transparency displayed by Governor Ahmed Abdullahi in addressing these pending bills indicates the local governments resolve to pay genuine and eligible pending bills is a beacon of hope for those anxiously awaiting their dues.

Wajir – Wajir Senator Abass Sheikh Mohamed joined Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed during the unveiling of the long-awaited bill verification report. 

Senator Abass said collaborative spirit among leaders in the county has brought hope to legitimate suppliers and contractors awaiting their payments. 

Senator Abass made it clear that, “they will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those owed are finally compensated for their services.”

Data from the Controller of Budget’s latest report reveals that counties accumulated pending invoices of Sh164.76 billion as of June 30, 2023.

The Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) ranked Wajir county second after Nairobi County in pending bills.

The committee has demanded a forensic audit and investigations by the EACC, leading to prosecution of county officers found culpable and the monies recovered.


Senator Abass Sheikh Mohamed on Wednesday underscored his unwavering support for the legitimate suppliers and contractors who have yet to receive their payments. 

He stated, “When push comes to shove; I will ultimately stand and advocate for the rights of the legitimate suppliers and contractors who are yet to receive their monies. I understand their frustration, that’s why I have requested the Governor to fast track the process and come up with a strategy on how to pay the huge pending bills.”

“The joint effort of these leaders signifies a step forward in addressing the pending bills issue and promises relief to the suppliers and contractors who have long awaited their rightful compensation,” said Yussuf. 

The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed, Wajir County Assembly Speaker Abdille Yussuf, county and national leaders, as well as members of the public.
