Somali President Prays for Peace at Prophet’s Mosque in Medina

President of Somalia Visits Masjid An Nabawi During Official Trip

Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, currently on an official trip to Saudi Arabia, visited the revered Masjid An Nabawi, also known as the Prophet’s Mosque, in Madina.

During his visit, he prayed for lasting peace, progress, and stability for his country, as stated by Villa Somalia.

This visit comes following an official invitation from King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, who warmly welcomed President Mohamud and his delegation in Jeddah on Tuesday.

Discussions between President Mohamud and King Salman will cover various topics, including strengthening bilateral ties, collaborative efforts in security and economic advancement, among other shared agendas.

The relationship between Somalia and Saudi Arabia is deeply rooted, characterized by mutual support in economic and humanitarian endeavors during challenging times.

President Mohamud’s visit to the Prophet’s Mosque symbolizes the importance of faith and peace in the pursuit of progress and stability for Somalia.

In January, Saudi Arabia reiterated its strong commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Somalia, particularly in light of the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the breakaway region of Somaliland.

The agreement granted Ethiopia commercial and military access to a portion of the Somali coast for 50 years. In response, Somaliland officials have stated that Ethiopia, in exchange, would be the first country to formally recognize Somaliland as an independent nation.

However, the federal government of Somalia rejected the Ethiopia-Somaliland port deal with a bicameral House of Parliament passing a bill Forbidding the treaty.

The relationship between Somalia and Saudi Arabia is profound, with the Somali people and government expressing gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s assistance during previous droughts and conflicts.
