UDA Grassroot Elections in Garissa and Isiolo Counties Postponed

UDA Adjusts Grassroot Election Dates in Garissa and Isiolo Counties for Maximum Participation

Grassroot Elections for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Garissa and Isiolo Counties have been postponed to allow for sufficient preparation following the conclusion of the Holy month of Ramadan and the subsequent Eid ul-Fitr celebrations.

UDA said in a statement consultations with key stakeholders revealed a consensus that the timing of Phase One of the elections immediately after these significant religious observances did not afford ample opportunity for all potential candidates and voters to adequately prepare.

The move is aimed at ensuring fairness, equity, and maximum participation, it has been agreed to reschedule the Grassroot Elections in Garissa County to June 22nd and in Isiolo County to August, 2024.

“This adjustment will afford all stakeholders the necessary time to organize, campaign, and fully engage in the electoral process without any constraints,” said the party.

The decision is part of a commitment to conduct transparent and inclusive elections that uphold the principles of democracy.

The electoral commission, it said remains steadfast in its dedication to facilitating a smooth and participatory electoral process, and urged all citizens to actively participate on the new dates.

Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala has assured of free, fair, and credible party nominations slated for later this month.

He said the elections will be conducted electronically to ensure transparency and verifiability.

“These are going to be the first grass-roots elections to be conducted on a digital platform in all the polling stations,” he stated.

“That should be celebrated, and people should be confident that we are going to conduct credible grassroots elections,” Malala said.

He called on those aspiring to be leaders to use the opportunity of the nominations as a platform for nurturing and incubating their ideas on leadership.
