Violence Erupts in Sala Centre, Wajir South Constituency, Leading to Fatalities

Sala Centre – Two factions of the same community clashed, leading to heightened tensions and a tragic loss of life on Thursday in Biyamadhow Division, Wajir South Constituency. 

The incident, which originated as a retaliatory clash between two groups, escalated into a division within Sala Centre disrupting the safety and security of the residents.

Local authorities, including the National Police Reservists were deployed to the scene to contain the situation. The NPR officers fired into the air in an attempt to disperse crowds that were regrouping amid the escalating unrest. 

Tragically, one man was struck and sustained severe injuries. Despite efforts to transport him to Dagahley medical facilities, the individual succumbed to his injuries.

A resident of the village, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed called for urgent need for local leaders, elders, and religious figures to intervene and de-escalate tensions. 

“All local leaders, elders, and religious leaders should intervene to avoid further escalation,” he urged.

The National Police is investigating the root causes of the clash and urged the community to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation to ensure a peaceful coexistence.
