Wajir Deputy Governor Ahmed Aato Advocates for Sustainable Development in Meeting with Swedish Delegation

Wajir – Wajir Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed received a high level delegation from the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi, The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Swedish International Development Corporation Agency (SiDA), and the World Food Programme (WFP) on Monday.

The team held a meeting with county officials on initiatives in resilience building, disaster risk management, social protection, and climate change action within Wajir County at the deputy governors office. 

WFP and Wajir County join forces for a sustainable future in Resilience Building and Climate Change action.


They exchanged ideas on ways of boosting collaborative efforts between Wajir County and Swedish representatives in addressing pressing issues related to sustainable development. 

Deputy Governor Muhumed underlined the need for a transition from short-term interventions to long-term integrated responses, aiming for lasting impacts on the community and the environment.

“In our conversations, we stressed the importance of shifting from temporary measures to comprehensive, long-term strategies, with the goal of achieving lasting effects,” said Ahmed Muhumed. 

The objective of their mission was to highlight WFP’s efforts in Resilience Building, Disaster Risk Management, Social Protection, and Climate Change action within Wajir County. The stakeholders said WFP has shown remarkable achievement in Resilience Building, Disaster Risk Management, Social Protection, and Climate Change action within Wajir County. 

Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Swedish government and international partners (WFP) in fostering positive change.

“I acknowledge the team for their support in the climate resilience, Disaster Risk Management (DRM), and social protection activities as integral elements of our response to drought within WFP Wajir.”

He conveyed to the representatives from the Swedish Foreign Ministry and SIDA the importance of broadening and deepening collaboration with WFP Kenya.

Mr. Muhumed also underscored the significance of integrated responses that take into account the unique challenges faced by Wajir County. 

He emphasized the importance of community engagement and participation in crafting solutions that are not only effective but also reflective of the local context.

The parties expressed optimism about the potential for creating lasting impacts through comprehensive and sustainable development initiatives.

The collaboration with the Swedish delegation marks a significant step in Wajir’s journey towards sustainable development. It underscores the joint commitment of local leaders and international partners to proactively address challenges and shape a progressive future for the region.
