Wajir Embraces Collective Call to End Gender Violence

Township – The Department of Education, Youth, Gender, and Sports unveiled the commencement of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence on Wednesday. 

The commemoration is significant stride towards fostering inclusivity and eradicating gender-based violence in the county. 

Wajir County Chief Executive Committee member for Education, Youth, Gender and Sports, Ahmed Wardere urged the public to draw inspiration from the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Mohamed (SAD), underscoring the importance of comprehensive rights without ambiguity.

The Chief Officer of Gender, Culture, and Social Services, Fatuma Olow termed the celebration as a collective responsibility to eliminate gender-based violence on a global scale. 

Olow emphasized, “Today, we unite as advocates, activists, and community leaders, aiming to create a world where every individual can live without fear, discrimination, and violence.”

Under the theme “Unite! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls,” this year’s campaign resonates with a commitment to collective investment for a future free from gender-based violence.

The 16 Days of Activism serve as a poignant reminder that change begins with unity and shared responsibility. 

Throughout the campaign, various activities and initiatives are planned to raise awareness, encourage dialogue, and inspire tangible actions. 

It embraces the call to unite against gender-based violence and a transformative journey to create a society where every person, irrespective of gender, can live with dignity, safety, and equality.
