Deputy Governor Dagane assures farmers in Garissa of county government’s support

Garissa deputy Governor Abdi Dagane has said the County Government will support agro-pastoral farmers in the county.

He said this was in-line with government plans to build the communities’ resilience to shocks and stresses from drought and floods through sustainable interventions.

Mr. Dagane said the plan will see establishment of alternative livelihoods through natural resources, market systems for livestock value chains, cottage industries for value addition, restoration of degenerated land ecosystems, promotion of renewable energy and also support county assembly in policy formulation and addressing development needs among others.

He was speaking at Garissa University where he opened the first County Resilience Knowledge Fair.

The fair is facilitated by USAID local implementing partner Horn Africa Consultants Firm (HACOF) under Resilience Learning Activity (RLA).

The Deputy Governor who was accompanied by Culture, Gender, Youth and Sports CECM Hon. Hawa Abdi, RLA Deputy Chief of Party Ibrahim Somo and PREG Chairman Siyat Moge called on the youth to delve into agri-business as a viable career instead of walking from one County office to another seeking employment.

“We will support farmers because if their business grows, they will also become employers and grow our local economy,” he said.

Director of Livestock Dr. Haret Hambe, Director of Agriculture Musyimi Kyalo, Director for Donor Coordination Mohamed Sahal and the Director for Culture Abdullahi Idle also accompanied the DG to the event.
