Eastern Africa Standby Force Chiefs Meet For Crucial Security Summit

Nairobi – General Francis Ogolla presided over the Eastern Africa Standby Force Chiefs of Defence Staff meeting in Nairobi on Thursday, marking a key session within the ongoing 32nd Ordinary East African Standby Force Organs’ six-day meeting that commenced on January 23, 2024.

General Ogolla expressed gratitude to the delegates, recognizing their commitment to regional peace, security, and collaboration. 

He emphasized the comprehensive agenda, urging cooperation in addressing various issues and the need to share knowledge, intelligence, and resources.

“Our agenda for this gathering is comprehensive, touching on a range of issues that demand our attention. We shall therefore need to foster a spirit of cooperation, sharing knowledge, intelligence, and resources to effectively address the multifaceted concerns that confront us,” he added.

Highlighting the complex geopolitical dynamics, transnational threats, and emerging challenges in the Eastern Africa community, General Ogolla stressed the importance of adaptability and innovation in defense and security strategies.

“This not only hinders the social development but political and economic aspects as well. The evolving challenges facing our region require us to be adaptable and innovative in our strategies of defence and security,” said the CDF.

Brigadier Paul Njema, the Eastern Africa Standby Force’s Director encouraged open dialogues for effective solutions. 

He underscored the significance of crafting a comprehensive report to guide decision-making at various levels.

During the meeting officials discussed the urgency of addressing root causes of security frailty, as well as the need to foster stability in the community. 

Chiefs of Defence Staff expressed their commitment to forging new alliances, strategically building a resilient defense architecture.
