Garissa Leaders Convene to Strengthen Oversight and Devolution

Garissa Senator Abdul Haji and some members of the Garissa County Assembly held a meeting to discuss crucial topics such as strengthening oversight, legislation, and devolution.

The meeting held during an Iftar event on Monday brought together most members of the county assembly, county government representatives, community leaders and key stakeholders from Garissa.

Reflecting on the significance of the gathering, Dertu MCA Aden Odowa remarked, “This session has given us hope for positive change in our beloved county. It provided an incredible opportunity for constructive dialogue and collaboration among leaders.”

The establishment of a Senate Liaison office at the Garissa County Assembly was announced after the meeting between the Senator Haji and the local leaders.

Senator Abdul Haji said, “The establishment of this office will enhance communication and coordination between the County Assembly and the Senate, fostering closer collaboration and synergy.”

Assembly members expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to receive specialized training from the Senate Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

“This training will empower us in our oversight functions and strengthen governance mechanisms within the county,” noted one Assembly member.

“We welcome the visit of the Senate committee, as it will further strengthen our governance structures and ensure effective project supervision,” said Waberi Ward, MCA, Abubakar Sugow.

Senator Haji reiterated his commitment to enhancing public participation and serving the people of Garissa.

“I am dedicated to ensuring that the voices of the people are heard, and their needs are addressed,” he affirmed.

“Fostering community bonds and promoting understanding among residents is crucial for the progress of our county,” said Senator Haji during the gathering.
