Mandera Hosts Peace Tournament Bridging Youth from Kenya and Somalia

Mandera – Mandera played host to a one-day peace tournament featuring a friendly match between Jamia FC of Mandera and Fly 24 FC of Dollo, Somalia. The football match organized by Mandera County Department of Sports and the office of Township MCA, Feisal Abdinoor. 

The match, held at the bustling Geneva Sports Ground, attracted a diverse and enthusiastic crowd eager to witness the friendly competition between teams representing Mandera and Dollo. 

The peace tournament is part of deliberate efforts to strengthen ties and build camaraderie among the youth from neighboring countries.

The captivating match concluded with Fly 24 FC securing victory with a 2-1 scoreline against Jamia FC.

The event, organized by Mandera County Department of Sports and Township MCA Feisal Abdinoor, highlighted the unity and camaraderie fostered through sports between communities from Mandera and Dollo, Somalia. Photo/GTN

Officials in attendance included Township County Assembly representative Feisal Abdinoor, MCA Neboi Adan Haro, Abdiwahab Mohamed Issack – CCO Youths, Sports and Talents Development, among other local leaders. 

The initiative, a collaborative effort of local leaders is a dedication to leverage sports as a catalyst for peace and unity. The tournament showcased the talent and sportsmanship of the participating teams and celebrated the cultural exchange between Mandera and Dollo.

Situated in the Mandera Triangle, where Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia converge, the municipality serves as a pivotal corridor and commerce hub for trading, essential for the sustenance of the Horn of Africa.

Sports, by crossing borders, has the power to cultivate understanding, friendship, and harmony, fostering unity among communities regardless of geographical boundaries.
