OHCHR Partners with Wajir County Government to Advance Human Rights and Sustainable Development

A team from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) visited Governor Ahmed Abdullahi in Wajir County to enhance human rights and foster collaboration. 

The meeting, held on Tuesday also discussed strategies in promoting collaboration and implementing human rights-based approaches. 

OHCHR said it is committed to facilitating meaningful dialogue and forming partnerships that yield tangible progress in advancing human rights, inclusive development, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The discussions highlighted the significance of continual consultations and exchanges with relevant stakeholders. These interactions are crucial for developing targeted interventions that address the specific needs and challenges faced by communities in Wajir County.

Governor Ahmed Abdullahi expressed appreciation for the collaboration that aims to foster cooperation and addressing critical human rights issues within the county. 

He said such  collaborative efforts are key to achieving sustainable development and ensuring the protection and promotion of human rights for all residents.

The meeting also served as a platform for building stronger partnerships between OHCHR and local authorities. It was also laying the groundwork for collaborative projects that will have effects on the lives of individuals and communities in Wajir County. 

Through joint efforts and shared commitments, both OHCHR and the local authority aim to make substantial strides towards the realization of human rights and the fulfillment of the SDGs.

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has been present in Kenya since 2008 in the aftermath of the 2007/08 elections’ violence. 

It assists national actors to comply with human rights obligations under international law. 

The UN Agency also works in strengthening the capacity of Civil Servants and the United Nations Country Team in Kenya to integrate human rights in their programs and policies.
