Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital Enhances Newborn Care with State-of-the-Art Equipment Donation

Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital has acquired essential medical equipment aimed at enhancing its capacity to provide crucial newborn care services.

The equipment, generously donated by Save the Children and procured through funding from LDS, includes a state-of-the-art baby warmer and a meticulously designed incubator. 

These machines are poised to revolutionise neonatal care, offering a safe and controlled environment for infants to thrive while their vital organs develop.

During the handover ceremony, Dr. Hawa Boi, the CEO of the hospital, expressed profound gratitude to the Save the Children team, particularly acknowledging the efforts of Program Manager Yussuf Gedi and Nutrition Coordinator Sugow Mathey for their invaluable contribution.

Dr. Hawa emphasized the significance of this equipment in advancing the hospital’s mission to achieve Universal Health Care within the county, emphasizing the critical importance of scaling up maternal and child health services. 

She underscored the pivotal role these machines will play in ensuring the well-being of newborns and their mothers, thus significantly contributing to the overarching goal of enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality.

The handover ceremony was attended by key stakeholders within the healthcare sector, including Abdullahi Daud from the County Health Management Team (CHMT) of Garissa, alongside dedicated staff members from the Newborn Unit and Nutrition Departments.

The acquisition is aimed at improving healthcare for newborns, a significant milestone in Garissa County’s journey towards comprehensive healthcare provision.

The Hospital and partners have pledged to prioritize maternal and child health and ensure the well-being of the most vulnerable members of society. 

The facility , which is the biggest in the North Eastern, will now utilize cutting-edge resources, a notable improvement in the quality of newborn care services.
