Peace Support Training Centre (PSTC) Conducts Research Mission in Mandera

Mandera  –  A team from the Peace Support Training Centre (PSTC) embarked on a three-day research mission in Mandera, focusing on fostering trust and collaboration between security agencies and the public. They were received in the border town by Mandera Deputy Governor Ali Maalim.

The initiative aims to strengthen community engagement and partnership in ensuring security in the region.

Supported by funding from various organizations including the UN Human Rights, UN OCHA, WFP, Uwezo Fund, and the Office of the Deputy President, the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) spearheads efforts to develop impactful training programs.

These programs aim to enhance integration and collaboration among security agencies and local communities, particularly in border counties like Mandera.

Established in January 2001 as part of the Kenyan Defence Staff College, PSTC initially focused on training Kenyan forces for UN peacekeeping missions and later African Union Peace Support Operations.

Recognizing the need for internationalization, PSTC underwent significant transformations over the years. In 2009, PSTC Karen merged with the International Mine Action Training Centre (IMATC) to form the IPSTC, signifying a broader scope of operations.

Today, IPSTC provides strategic and operational level decision-making and leadership training to enhance planning and management of multidimensional peace operations.

Furthermore, it plays a pivotal role in supporting the development of African peace operations capacity, with a specific focus on the African Standby Force (ASF) and the Eastern Africa Standby Force Secretariat (EASFSEC).

Through formal partnership arrangements with countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Japan, Kenya, Germany, and organizations like UNDP, IPSTC continues to advance its mission of promoting peace and security across Africa.

The research mission in Mandera engaged local communities and stakeholders to address security challenges effectively.
