Nairobi-Garissa (A3) Road Closed Due to Flooding: Safety Advisory Issued

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of the Nairobi-Garissa (A3) Road, following severe flooding at the Mororo area, situated between Madogo and Tana River Bridge.

The closure comes amidst ongoing heavy rainfall, resulting in the swelling of the Tana River and subsequent overflow onto the roadway.

The flooding at Mororo has compromised one lane of the road, posing a significant safety risk to motorists and other road users.

KENHA has taken the precautionary measure of shutting down the affected stretch of the highway until floodwaters recede, and the damaged section can be reinstated.

The increased water levels in the Tana River have raised concerns regarding the Seven Folks Dams, which are rapidly filling to near full capacity.

The overflow from these dams exacerbates the flooding situation, heightening the risk of further damage to infrastructure and endangering lives.

KENHA said it’s personnel are actively stationed at the site, prepared to address any washouts or damages as soon as conditions allow.

The authority emphasized the importance of caution among road users and strongly advises against driving through flooded areas.

KENHA urged the public to exercise vigilance and refrain from attempting to traverse the closed section of the Nairobi-Garissa (A3) Road.

Motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes and to adhere to all traffic diversions and instructions provided by authorities.
