Prime Minister Hamza Barre Commits Somalia to SDGs at UN General Assembly

New York – Prime Minister Hamza Barre has delivered a resolute pledge at the United Nations General Assembly, reaffirming his nation’s unwavering commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

In his address, Prime Minister Barre underscored Somalia’s dedication to fostering sustainable development and highlighted key initiatives aimed at realizing these global objectives.

Prime Minister Barre emphasized the Somali government’s substantial investments in education, a vital cornerstone for progress and empowerment. 

“These investments not only aim to expand access to quality education but also to nurture a skilled and educated workforce essential for driving Somalia’s sustainable development,” he said. 

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of sustainable agriculture as a means to enhance food security, boost rural economies, and promote self-sufficiency. 

Somalia, with its rich agricultural potential, is poised to harness these opportunities to improve the livelihoods of its citizens and promote economic growth.

In the face of the mounting challenges posed by climate change, Prime Minister Barre highlighted Somalia’s determination to adapt and mitigate its effects. 

Climate resilience measures are central to Somalia’s strategy, ensuring the nation is better prepared to face the consequences of a changing climate and protect its vulnerable communities.

He called on the international community to seize this crucial opportunity to accelerate collective efforts towards achieving the SDGs.
